Why do my blood tests show no results of RA?
I took Methotrexate for a year and half. Knowing the side effects really messed with my emotional state. I went off Metho and am now just taking Meloxicam. I only have clinical signs of RA doesnt show up in blood tests.
Hi DEBMAR: You are what is referred to as seronegative, as am I. This just means that at the PRESENT time, the RA factor is not detected in your blood. You may become positive at some future time, but this is unimportant in the diagnosis of RA. Blood work is not used to diagnose RA, but can be useful in confirming it. The diagnosis is made by the patients H&P, or history and physical. Good luck with your treatment and hang in there
Hi DEBMAR: I too am seronegative RA. In addition, my lab tests for inflammation and other markers usually come back completely normal -- regardless of pain or swelling in my joints. Fortunately I have a rheumatologist that treats the patient, not the lab results, because I clearly have a severe inflammatory condition going on. Note that Meloxicam is an NSAID, so it reduces inflammation. This will lower some of the lab results that show inflammation -- meaning that it's helping to control the condition, which is a good thing.

I am also seronegative but thankfully received a diagnosis. My bloodwork always comes back within normal levels but I do exhibit swelling, tenderness and pain.
