How can I afford my medication?

I have been struggling with RA for about two years now. I have tried Plaquenil (which I still take), methotrexate pills and injections (which I saw no improvement with), and now am awaiting approval for Humira. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and I would like to know if anyone is taking Humira and paying a reasonable price because I know it is very expensive without insurance. Thanks!

  1. I know biologics can be mad expensive. You should check out the Humira copay assistance page and go from there. The URL is https://www.humira.com/humira-complete/cost-and-copay Keep on keepin’ on, DPM

    1. Hi . It is really hard to find an unbiased article out there that clearly explains the Inflation Reduction Act, but here is one that discusses the Medicare impact is a fairly straight forward way: https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/insurance/medicare/inflation-reduction-act-medicare. I hope this helps and that your BIL can eventually get back on Humira. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Hi . On top of the excellent information already provided, I want to share with you this article from our patient leader Lisa on finding help to afford RA medications: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/help-affording-medications. Wishing you and your BIL the best. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

  2. Hi silukmonika. Concerns over the price of medications is completely understandable. On top of the excellent information from Daniel about the copayment assistance programs from the manufacturers, thought you might be interested in this article from one of our contributors on ways to help with affording RA medications (including the copayment assistance): https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/finding-help-to-afford-your-ra-medications/. 1. Thank you, it works!

    2. Hi . So glad the link from worked. In addition, this link should go to the article I previously posted (looks like the address was slightly changed): https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/help-affording-medications. I do want to not that it is a few years old, but I think most of the information is still accurate. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

  3. Hi , I also have BCBS PPO (it's the State of Florida plan) and am on Humira. For me, I only pay $5 with the Humira Co-Pay assistance program that Daniel talked about above, which I highly recommend checking out. Without the Humira Co-Pay program, I would have to pay $125. Of course, this is just my specific insurance policy, which may be different from yours, but I'm hoping that it won't be too expensive for you! I know how ridiculous the pricing can be.
