Can UTIs be difficult to treat on biologics?

What would otherwise be an easily treatable UTI seems to have catapulted me into a full flu-like stage. I am on antibiotics and the UTI symptoms seems to be improving, but I feel like I have a bad case of the flu. I take Inflectra infusions and MTX. Has anyone else experienced this?

  1. Hi kingkatekong! I am sorry you are dealing with stubborn UTIs! I know that they are no fun and very uncomfortable! Unfortunately, some medications used to treat RA symptoms can exacerbate certain kinds of infections, including UTIs. You can read more about it right here -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/ra-treatments-urinary-tract-infections/. If you haven't done so already, don't hesitate to let your physician and rheumatologist know what's going on. I hope you get some relief soon! Best, Erin, RheumatoidArthritis.net Team Member.

    1. Hi Kate,

Im sorry youre dealing with this. I had a similar problem several years ago when I was on MTI. After getting on MTI, I feel like it was causing UTIs, I went from rarely getting them, less than once a year, to 3 or 4 times a year. After numerous complaints to my doctor, he switched me over to Gengraf. Good news was that the UTIs went away, but unfortunately the Gengraf wasnt as effective for me for my RA. Though I understand its different for different people.

Good luck, I hope you feel better and the UTIs clear up soon!

      Ann
