Has anyone had an ankle replacement?

I'm due to have an ankle replacement as the triple fusion I had a few years ago hasn't helped and my joints have gotten worse. I was just wondering if anyone has had an ankle replacement and how they found it after surgery and recovering.

  1. Hi Alice! I haven't personally had an ankle replacement but one of our community members wrote a fantastic article about their own ankle surgeries and how they were impacted.

Other community members will weigh in too, but this could be a good starting point for you!

    2. Hi Alice1991. I can't speak personally to ankle replacement surgery, but I can tell you that it is becoming more common, as success rates have improved. Here is an article that summarizes recent studies of ankle replacements and notes that "recent improvements in prosthetic design and encouraging short- to medium-term results, there has been a renewed interest in total ankle arthroplasty:" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6026887/. Hope this information is helpful. Wishing you the best. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
