Antibiotics for treatment???

I recently read an article (online) that stated that there's an antibiotic (minocycline) that has shown success in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Has anyone heard of this....if so I'd appreciate thoughts regarding this treatment. I'm currently on methotrexate (8 2.5mg pills once/week) that was raised to this dosage. Then labs were ordered...my rheumatologist is talking about changing me over to something else, ie. humera or embrel.

  1. Hi LibbyRa, in addition to discussing this with your rheumatologist, you can check out these articles and learn a little bit more about Minocycline as a potential treatment for RA -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/antibiotics-treatment-ra/ and https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/other-conventional-disease-modifying-anti-rheumatic-drugs/. I hope this helps! Please feel free to keep us posted on your treatment. Thanks for being a part of this community! Have a good night, Erin (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team Member).
