Anyone on this site try vegan or gluten free diet ?

Hello 😀 I have read the article on here that Angela Lundberg wrote about her vegan diet. It was very interesting. I have been on all kinds of medications for my Rheumatoid arthritis for over 9 years now. Nothing has really helped me and I keep getting worse... Tried all the biologics, nothing works other than Humira & Embril that I keep flip flopping around * they aren't even working much for me anymore*..... I am at ends.

Has anyone on here tried a vegan or gluten free diet ? I have read several blogs and articles that some of these have made people feel better. They were able to cut down or even able to stop their medications eventually. I truly do believe that you are what you eat.

Thanks 😀 Debbie

  1. Hi 1keylimepie! I am sorry that conventional medications have not been helpful for you. I know that must be very frustrating. I know a number of our members have tried a variety of diets, with varying degrees of success. Much like the medications, each diet may or may not help an individual. I don't know if you saw this article on our site about gluten free diets -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/nutrition/pros-cons-gluten-free-diet-ra/. You might also find this overview of healthy eating options helpful -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/diet-and-nutrition/. You can also pose this question on our Facebook page and see if you get some feedback -- https://www.facebook.com/RheumatoidArthritisDotNet. Making healthy food choices definitely can't hurt, so maybe you would like to try what you think is doable for you and your lifestyle and see what results you get. You can also discuss any dietary changes you are considering with your doctor. I wish you the best of luck! Please feel free to come back and update us on your progress, if you would like. Best, Erin, RheumatoidArthritis.net Team Member.

    1. Thank you guys for responding 😀 Thank you for the links as well. I am trying strictly vegan at first and maybe gluten free afterwards. I will be following Dr. John Mcdougall, he makes a lot of sense to me. I am on all sorts of meds. that really aren't working for me.... It's great that you aren't on any meds, I wish to be that lucky some day 😉 ..... I will keep you informed on how things are going 😀

      Thanks again! Deb

      1. I am currently working on drifting over to a vegan diet, kind of hard thing to do when living in the "Dairy State" of Wisconsin, and I am also learning to follow the McDougall plan for what I suppose is many of the same reasons 1keylimepie is.
For what it is worth, a healthier diet can't make things worse.

        Edward.

        1. Hi Edward 😀 That's geat! Yeah, cheese is my absolute favorite! lol McDougall's site is very interesting! Makes a lot of sense to me. I know my dad had psoriasis * in the autoimmune disease family as well * He was on a diet which was plant & starch based, pretty close to McDougall's and cleared his skin up. He lost weight and was over all much healthier because of it. I am super excited today, as it's the first day of eating vegan.
