Arthritis and Liposuction

Hi all, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about a year ago. I need the fat removed from the hips and thighs to lighten the weight on my arthritic hips. My leg knees and feet are so awful. Whenever I try to walk it feels like my feet are too heavy and I can’t balance my body weight. This morning I woke and my ankles were still hurting badly. I’m considering to undergo liposuction from Windsor, Ontario ( http://www.breastandtummytuck.com/procedures/liposuction/ ) to suck out the extra fat from my hips and thighs. But I want to know if I can get a cosmetic surgery with rheumatoid arthritis. So I’m afraid if I’ll feel discomfort after the surgery. Does anyone know about this? Please share.

  1. Hey Chris258,
Thanks for reaching out in our forums and so sorry to hear that your feet and knees feel so awful. While we are glad to hear that you are considering a new procedure, we encourage you to speak with your Rheumatoligist (if you haven't already done so) about the side effects you may or may not experience after a surgery like this.
Additionally the community may give you some of their personal experiences if they have had this procedure done too.
In the meantime here's an article that may be helpful: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/surgery/questions-to-ask-your-doctor-before-surgery/
We wish you the best and please come back and let us know how you are doing.
    Warmly,
    Lauren (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
