Back Pain

Has anyone here successfully cured their arthritis pain by eliminating anything from your diet? I was recently diagnosed with arthritis as I experienced pain, swelling and numbness on my back. I am thinking of getting chiropractic activator method treatment from Mississauga (Erin Mills Optimum Health) near by. I have eliminated most grain from my diet. But I want to know more from anyone here who had experienced this. I don't want to be in pain for the rest of my life. Please give me some suggestions/advice.

  1. Hi ~

What type of arthritis have you been diagnosed with? This will make a huge difference in the types of treatments that will be most useful to you. If you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, it is very important that - in addition to any changes you may try in your diet - that you be under the care of a qualified rheumatologist who can help you find a treatment to prevent long-term and permanent joint damage. Luckily there are lots of good treatment options, and though it may take some time to find the one that's right for you these treatments can help hugely with pain! So please make sure you discuss these options with your rheumatologist.

Unfortunately there is no scientific evidence that shows that any particular type of diet will necessarily improve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. However, there's lots of anecdotal evidence that diet changes can help patients control their symptoms. Personally I tried a gluten-free diet for six full months without any improvement of my RA symptoms, but I do know others who have claimed a benefit from this type of diet.

Hang in there and remember that we are here to support you! Best of luck!

    1. I have RA..Am 65 and have had scence I was 30..I have terrible back pain..I first was told that I had 3 ruptured disk..That was about 15 or so years ago...I have recently went back thought if I could have lazer surgery, I would do it...Come to find out, ruptured disk are gone..My RA has distroyed it..The pain is now because there is no cushion in there..Bone is just laying on bone..I would have to have major surgery where they put plates and every thing else in there..I dont want to do that ..Ive heard its pretty bad..Also said I could have shots in spinne...That scares me to death.. Wonder if I can try something else.. Its a terrible thought to think that I hate to live with this pain for the rest of my life.. I wish I could give suggestions on something to help with back pain but I dont know what it would be...Sorry

      1. Dear Child of God,

I will be turning 65 in February and have had RA since I was 34, and like you I have a lot of pain in my lower back. I had my first MRI last week and will be seeing an orthopedic specialist on Monday. Like you I am terrified of back surgery but I'm also afraid that if I don't I will become completely house bound and bedridden. My sympathy is with you. If I gain any great insight Monday I will let you know. S
