Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and I am in pain everyday. I have been taking drugs for for my pain. Without it I would not be able to move each day, but I am still in pain everyday. The pain has become intolerable now. My joints are swollen, stiff and painful. I thought of trying physiotherapy at Athletic Edge Sports Medicine, Toronto(http://www.aesm.ca/services/physiotherapy-toronto/ ). Will physiotherapy help for this? Does anyone else suffer with this? Do you use anything specific or find that a particular thing helps?

  1. Hi Henryjohn ~

I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with such pain. The first thing I would recommend is speaking with your rheumatologist about your discomfort and limitations. There are lots of medication options out there - and if you work with your rheumatologist as a team hopefully you can find a combination that will help with your pain and improve your overall quality of life. If the medications you are currently taking aren't sufficient, that is something you should definitely discuss with your doctor.

As for physiotherapy, regular physical activity is an important part of treating rheumatoid arthritis - so you may find that working with a physical therapist would be very helpful! A physical therapist can help you find ways to exercise that can help you feel better, maintain strength, and not cause any additional damage.

Best of luck! Please remember that we understand what you are gong through and we are here to support you!
