Hip Popping at Night and Pain During Day (newly diagnosed)

Hello,
I am recently diagnosed and just started Hydroxychloroquine last week. A few nights ago I started experiencing a pop in my left hip during the night, i.e., when waking up to go to the bathroom. Yesterday morning I started having hip pain and it is worse today. Is it possible to already be experiencing hip issues? I'm quite concerned as I teach a cycle class (taught yesterday) and a weight lifting class (4x per week). I would appreciate anyone sharing their experiences or any advice.
Thank you and early Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Sorry to hear you are having these hip issues natpt. This article from our editorial team looks at hip issues and RA: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/symptoms/hip-swelling-and-stiffness/. One thing of note is that hip problems are fairly uncommon in those newly diagnosed - "Only 10% of patients who have been diagnosed with RA for less than 10 years will experience hip involvement." Of course, this certainly does not mean that RA is not the cause of your pain. Any new symptom should be brought to the attention of your doctor. Wishing you the best and please keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
