Is it RA or Peripheral Spondylitis?

Anyone ever heard of Peripheral Spondylitis? I have been doing a ton of reading after my doc mentioned it and am trying to find others who have heard of the diagnosis. So far I have had two rheumy's with two different opinions. One said RA and the second is still "undifferentiated', but last week, he had an "aha" moment when we started talking about horrible plantar fasciitis in my feet. I have also been diagnosed with tendinitis in my right wrist and flares in large joints. We are still trying to figure out my flares that have become WAY more frequent in the last three months. My hands don't really have painful flares or swelling, more mechanical mix ups where they don't work so well. I don't have the back pain associated with more traditional ankylosing (axial) spondylitis. Anyway, everything I have read seems to point more to Peripheral Spondylitis. More ultrasounds in a few weeks, but in the meantime, if anyone knows of any forums or support groups for Spondylitis, please let me know.

Thanks!

  1. Hi tcphd! While we can't offer medical advice or diagnosis, for your safety, I have to say that I am intrigued by your situation. I am not familiar with Peripheral Spondylitis, although ankylosing spondylitis does get discussed on this site with some regularity. I did not have much luck finding forums and support groups for peripheral spondylitis, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. You can try the arthritis foundation -- http://www.arthritis.org/. Also, our members may have some input that you may find helpful. Please keep us posted on your diagnosis, should you feel comfortable sharing. I would be interested to find out what your next round of tests/ultrasounds reveals. Thank you for sharing! Best, Erin, RheumatoidArthritis.net Team Member.
