Has anyone else changed treatments from Meloxicam?

I have been taking Meloxicam for OA for five years, but after 3 yrs was diagnosed with RA and now take Methotrexate. Had to stop taking Meloxicam because of blood in my urine.

  1. Hi DEBMAR,
Thanks for reaching out to us and telling us more about your story with Meloxicam. Sorry to hear you were experiencing blood in your urine. I hope you are feeling better.
Many other community members have been put on Methotrexate. Do you have any specific questions about this? How are you making out on Methotrexate?

While we do encourage you to always speak with your Dr about any specific treatment questions, and if symptoms worsen our community may have experienced something similar and may chime in.

Thanks again for posting in our Q&A.
    Glad to have you here.
    Best, Lauren (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. Since I have been off the meloxicam the only symptom that I have notices that has gotten worse is the achy and very painful hands. I've been trying creams Joint Flex works the best.
Not sure what to make of it, but do not want to increase Methotrexate because of side effects. Any suggestions like Tylenol Arthritis? Not sure
      Thanks
      Debmar

  2. Hi DEBMAR. First, let me say that any new symptoms should be reported to your doctor. They may want to adjust your treatment or look at new options to deal with it. This article from our editorial team gives an overview of the various treatments: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/.

You mention concerns about side-effects, which is of course legitimate. One way that is sometimes used to limit the amount of a particular drug is combination therapy, which is described in more detail here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/combinations-of-conventional-and-biologic-dmards/.

Hope this information helps and keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
