RA and carpal tunnel syndrome

I have had RA for 6 years but recently diagnosed with carpel tunnel syndrome in my right hand. I will see the specialist for treatment of my hand in 2 weeks. The pain is nerve racking but now got a knot in the fold of my thump. I don’t know if that is the RA or CTS. My question is has any been diagnosed with CTS while having RA?

  1. Hi There:

Yes, I was dxd. with CTS in 2016. I sure do remember that pain, numbness and burning feeling in my right hand. I'm glad that I had the surgery done. No more of those symptoms.

I'm sorry that you are going through that. Good Luck at your appointment in 2 weeks.

    1. I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome about 2 years after diagnosis at age 53. The pain was pretty bad and required an ER visit one weekend. I was told to buy a 'Cock Up' Splint which is not dirty language. It puts your hand in the correct position (with your hand 'up' from your wrist to allow as much room as possible for the nerves etc that are trying to do their job in the area of your 'tunnel' at the wrist where your hand begins. I did recover in a few days and had only one relapse when I tried a new way to pack for vacation! The idea was to roll like things together and put them in plastic bags. The air was then sucked out of them so that the bag took up less room in your suitcase.

We arrived in the UK the next day and my Carpal Tunnel problem flared really badly. I had left the brace at home because I thought the issue was behind me. It was not a good feeling.
