Tendon Graft Experiences

Hi,
Hoping members can share their experiences with tendon graft surgeries. My dominant hand ring finger is mostly immobile after a bout with trigger finger and subsequent mycobacterium infection in the tendon sheath. My hand surgeon wants to either 1) leave it along or 2) remove the tendon to be replaced with a tendon graft 4 months later.

Neither of these options is particularly welcome news. So I'm hoping someone who has had a similar surgery might be willing to share whether they were able to recover and how long it takes to get function back.

At least it's my ringer finger rather than long finger, but some people still think I'm making a rude sign at them! 😀

  1. Hi BeckyKay. Your apprehension concerning graft surgery is certainly understandable and it is great that you are seeking out more information. This article from our editorial team on hand and wrist surgery touches on graft surgery: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/surgery/hand-and-wrist-surgery/. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
