David Advent
David Advent is a recent graduate of the Florida State University, where he majored in English Literature and International Affairs. Originally from North Carolina, David now resides in Tallahassee, Fl where he is currently taking a gap year between his undergraduate and graduate studies. During his gap year, David will be working as a Political Papers Archivist at the Claude Pepper Library on FSU’s campus. Ultimately, he wants to pursue a PhD in English Literature, culminating in a tenure-track position.
David was diagnosed with RA in October 2018 at the age of 21. The diagnosis was shocking and challenging, especially because the diagnosis came during the middle of his senior year, a time rife with grad school applications and upper-level course work. Because of the diagnosis, David is currently in the process of reassessing and reconfiguring his goals and purposes in life. He is also working on finding the correct treatment plan for his body. Despite the challenges and the losses, David hopes to turn his diagnosis into a source of fruitful creativity that will allow him to share his unique perspective on RA as both a college student and a young professional.
