Burning Sensation

I was diagnosed about 8 years ago. Lately Infwel like my flare ups are occurring more frequently, lasting longer and are more intense. My entire body feels like it’s burning. Is that a symptom others have felt?

  1. Hi, ! I am sorry you are dealing with more frequent flares. Have you talked to your doctor about what you are experiencing? It may be time to look into trying different treatments to see if the flares can be brought under control a bit.

Some of our members have described burning sensations, either on the skin, or sometimes, in their feet and other areas of the body. I haven't come across another member that has described burning sensations throughout the whole body, but that doesn't mean someone here hasn't has the same experience.

I would definitely talk to your doctor, if you haven't done so already. You deserve to not be dealing with increasing flares and pain!

    1. Hi . People here understand that anxiety that comes with feeling like symptoms are returning or getting worse. Our contributor Daniel wrote about it here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/medication-not-working. Have you had a chance to speak with your doctor about whether or not your treatment needs to be adjusted or changed? Our contributor Kelly Mack (full disclosure - I'm her husband) wrote here about how to know when to change medications: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/when-to-change-medications.
Concerning the burning you mentioned, mind if I ask if you are referring to your skin, a pain/feeling in your tissue and muscles, or in your joints? I ask because there could be different issues depending on nature of what you are feeling. There are skin issues related to RA or allergy issues related to meds, such as discussed here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/when-to-change-medications. There are also other conditions that may cause burning pain and autoimmune conditions like RA love to collect comorbidities. Of course, only a doctor can do the proper diagnostics to see if your issue is RA flaring or something else going on. Hope this information is helpful and please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing and to ask more questions. Best, Richard (Team Member)

      1. I have increased tingling, numbness and burning in my hands and feet when I am flaring. My Rheum attributes that to nerve pressure from swelling. This may be different than what you describe as your whole body. Whether your symptoms are related to flaring or something else, it sounds like it’s time to see your Rheum for help. I Hope you get relief soon, Jo
