Just checking in

Hello all.
My name is Randy. Just checking in. I have had RA for 30 years basically really easy, mild RA. I am 63 now. But now it seems its worse, with joint damage progressing. For many years I was on Methotrexate, Plaquenil, and Steroids with Folic acid. Now I am only on Methotrexate and Folic Acid. I know I should be on more, but it is just so difficult. I had A brain tumor removed two years ago and resulting in permanent hormone therapy. Also, two years ago I was diagnosed with an Ascending Aortic aneurism, which was 4.7cm. It is now 5.1 cm, and they will maybe do surgery when it gets to 5.5cm.
Add to all that I now have a Hiatal hernia that the Drs are saying are causing chest pain. Sometimes it just seems so overwhelming, but I know the Lord will get me through it all. Thanks for letting me vent.

  1. Hi Randy (). You are welcome to vent here anytime. That is what we are here for, to offer support and a safe place to blow off some steam. It sounds like your body has been under a lot of stress lately. That can make RA symptoms worse and lead to further progression. I know you are already overwhelmed with medical issues right now, but a trip to your rheumatologist for some different or additional medication might lead to major improvements in your quality of life. Please know we are here for you whenever you need us. Warmest of wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. It sounds like you are going through a lot, Randy. Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry to hear that your RA has been getting worse, that must be so frustrating after managing it okay for 30 years. I totally understand the hesitation to go on more medication. I've felt the same. At one point, I didn't want to be on any medication at all so I made the regretful decision to come off of it and focus solely on my diet and lifestyle choices. While I did notice great improvements in my overall health, I was unable to be as pain-free as I was with the medication. Now I use both approaches to keep feeling my best and I've made my peace with needing the medication. Have you looked into a more holistic approach at all? It's good you have faith that you'll get through it all, that's super important. It takes a lot of strength to cope with just chronic pain let alone a tumor, an aneurysm, and a hernia. I admire your resilience. Please know that you are not alone! We are rooting for you. -Franki
