My feet

Had surgery on both feet. I can only wear Brook beast tennis shoes. But I do what is comfortable for my feet. Does anyone else have tips for things to wear on feet post-surgery?

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to this issue, but I'm tagging our patient leader who has had a couple ankle and foot surgeries. Also, I can tell you that my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), was diagnosed at age two, 45 years ago - before modern treatments, with the damage to show for it. She has significant foot damage and cannot stand/balance without shoes. Her podiatrist has her wearing Hoka brand for their support, with inserts. In addition, in this article another patient leader, Lynn Marie, wrote about here experience with a podiatrist and dealing with shoes and RA-related foot issues: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/buy-shoes-arthritis-foot-pain. Hope this information helps and that others chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. Hi , in addition to the information Richard shared, I just wanted to share another article. It's not specific to surgery and footwear but about RA and footwear. You might be especially interested in the comment section, as several people shared their favorite shoes, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/supportive-sandals-footwear. (Some sandals as the article is about summer footwear, but not all.) -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

      1. I hope you are doing well post-surgery and thank you for taking the time to write in about this concern. Have you asked your orthopedic surgeon or a podiatrist on what shoes would be best for you post-op? I know they may say it's personal preference but they can offer some options or tell you what is good versus what is not. My other community members offered up some great resource articles for you and I wanted to add in a blog, Barking Dog Shoes created by someone with RA who has had foot surgery/arthritis in her feet. She reviews every shoe imaginable and is worth a look. I hope you find items that help you and are happy with. -Effie, team member
