Has anyone ever tried finger ring splints?

Hi. I have RA in my wrists and fingers and recently I noticed that my pinky has been bending forward at the top joint.

I wear splints for my wrists at night, so I thought I would start splinting my pinky as well. I have been using popsicle sticks right now, but when I was doing some research I saw finger ring splints that actually looked like jewelry rings. Has anybody ever tried these and found that they work?

  1. Hi charlie27. I know there are many in the community who have experience with finger damage from RA. I can tell you that it just so happens that my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), recently started wearing a ring splint. She originally tried one that she ordered online and she referred to it as a good short-term solution. However, she then had an occupational therapist, who she was seeing for hand therapy, take measurements and have a splint made to her specific needs. it is important to discuss with your medical team any potential addition to a treatment regimen. Wishing you the best. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. my heart hurts for what you went through as a kid, both physically and emotionally, with your parents not believing you and causing you even more pain! And holy moly, how incredibly painful to break your hip completely in two. OUCH! I really admire your not taking "no" for an answer that is so strong you showed those doctors they were wrong about you walking again. What an RA warrior you are. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. Hi . I'm kind of amazed at how often others think a person won't walk again - those who haven't been through it don't understand what can often be accomplished with sheer will when there is a chance. Kelly has to stop and count to figure out how many times she's learned to walk (probably six depending on how you count). She did have the benefit of significant support. Glad you are keeping up the fight. Best, Richard (Team Member)

  2. It's good to know that ones ordered online are more of a short-term solution. I will definitely bring it up with my OT. Thanks, !

    1. I am also looking for ring splints in Canada or US. Etsy has them from Europe but some look shady, long deliver and what style works best.

      1. Have you looked on Amazon? I've seen some great options there with good reviews. -Latoya (Team Memeber)

      2. Hi, ! I replied to your question about ring splints on another thread and I thought I would link my reply here for you -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/decorative-finger-splints-in-canada. I hope this helps!

    2. I have used them before. I ordered plastic ones off Amazon to try. They did work, but to be honest I couldn't find a way to wear it where it wasn't painful after a while. I only used them for an hour or so at a time and then, eventually, forgot about it all together. That's my experience with finger splints, anyway. Hopefully yours is better! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
