Skin hair and nail issues

Has or does anyone have RA related skin, hair and/or nail issues?
My only meds are hydroxychloroquine, Tylenol as needed, motrin as needed and prednisone for 3 to 5 days as needed for flairs.
My dermatologist put me on a multi vitamin designed for hair skin and nails but after 2 months my nails are worse and I now have sores in the corners of my mouth that I have never had in my life.
My nails crumble like potato chips and my hair is dry and brittle. I get random itchy rashes that look like hives.
I know I know.. I must be a dream come true! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£
>sigh<
All my skin care products and laundry products are hypoallergenic. Even my dish soap is dye and fragrance free.
The dermatologist questioned if it was nutritional in nature thus the biotin rich multi vitamin.
My thyroid is normal
My RA is not stable at all.
I am at a loss.
Any thoughts?

  1. Hi - it sounds like you're going through it! Unfortunately many of the symptoms you shared are common with RA. Here are a few discussions that may be helpful: Itchy & dry skin (https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/xerosis) - nail issues (https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/pealing-nail-beds), flaky skin issues (https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/skin-issues) - mouth sores (https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/methotrexate-mouth-sores) I do hope this helps and others may also weigh in. 1. Thank you thank you.
      I will start reading now.

      1. Keep taking the Biotin... I take one daily in addition to my multivitamin & Calcium. Thinning hair & VERY dry eyes. I also get a random "flash rash " that itches like crazy; & develops a hard nodule under the skin if I scratch too much. Weird bruise pattern, too. ( circular mark.)

        1. Thank you for sharing, Julie. I hope you find some relief soon. Hang in there! -Effie, team member

        2. Hi . I noticed that you mentioned dry eyes on top of the skin issues. Has anyone ever mentioned Sjogren's Syndrome? It is characterized by excessive dryness and is often comorbid with RA. Our contributor Nan wrote about it here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/dry-as-a-desert. Of course, only a doctor can do the proper diagnostics and there are other potential causes, but thought you would like to have the information. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
