Has anyone had a steroid injection in their thumb?

I am considering a steroid injection in my thumb. If you've had one, did it have a positive effect on other hand joints and fingers?

  1. Hi J0dspace. While you wait for specific input from the community thought you might be interested in this article from one of our contributors on steroid injections for treating RA symptoms: In addition, this article looks at carpal tunnel syndrome and RA, as this can often effect the thumb: Wishing you the best and let us know how you are doing. 1. I had injections in both thumbs (at the base of the thumbs) last year. I'll be honest, the shots hurt like a "you know what" and didn't do much for me. However, I will say my thumb pain is due to cartilage damage. I've had injections in my hips for bursitis (didn't help) and right before a total hip replacement due to cartilage damage (didn't help). BUT, I've had injections in my ankles for tenosynovitis which helped tremendously. I guess it depends on what is causing the pain maybe (???). I wish I could have something more positive to say. Good luck to you.

      1. Prior to getting my thumb injection my shoulder flared and an US showed tendinitis, bursitis, synovitis and minor rotator cuff tear. So, instead I went in for a shoulder injection. First, it was way less discomfort than I expected ! Doc recommended a wrist brace for the meantime. 24 hours later my wrist, hands and digits are improving. Shoulder is gradually improving as are many symptoms throughout my body. I told Doc - I’m a steroid junky! They are the only thing that help multiple joint pains. Unfortunately, it is too dangerous to use long term. Start Enbrel tomorrow.

        1. I have had them all over. I needs some in my wrist and fingers now.
