Anyone with RA here had a total knee replacement?

If so, how was it short term and long term?

I had my knee replaced one month ago. The surgeon, to his credit, said it would be the worst pain I have ever had for at least two weeks. It was! Tremendous swelling and bruising from the ankle to the groin.

I have heard RA patients typically have good long term outcomes, but I wonder if short term we swell more than a typical patient. It would make sense as our bodies are already in hyper defensive mode. Please let me know your experiences.

  1. Hi ! While you wait for others here to chime in (I'm hopeful they will do so!) I wanted to point you in the direction of some knee replacement posts on our site: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/?s=knee+replacement In the meantime, perhaps you can browse those and see if any of your questions are answered in there?

Glad to hear the surgery went okay for you, Wayne. Wishing you a speedy recovery! -Alesandra (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. I'm undiagnosed yet but had my left knee replaced in 2012. I had waited a year to get the surgery and I think even so that RA made it more difficult. Happily, I can still do most of the things I want to do.
