Never get a diagnosis!

I’m a 52 year old female with 3 grown children and 7 beautiful grand children. I have very bad arthritis in my hands and some in my toes. The pain is in my fingers, knees, toes back and shoulder. I have never been diagnosed with RA although my mother and my sister were diagnosed with RA. We have lupus also that runs in our family. I’m really not sure if I have RA or if I don’t! I know some days the pain in my hands and fingers are so bad I don’t want to get out of bed. I make myself get out of bed daily cause I’m scared if I stop I will end up worse and won’t be able to get up anymore !

Hi Amanda65! First off, I am sorry you are pain. Have you been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis? There is some standard criteria for reaching an RA diagnosis, which you can read about here — https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/diagnosis/. I would definitely push your doctor to test you for RA or lupus. Having a definitive diagnosis helps you create an effective treatment plan. Even if you are tested and are diagnosed with another condition, you will at least have some answers and be able to start treating your condition. Best of luck and please, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and your health. You deserve proper care and treatment. Best, Erin, RheumatoidArthritis.net Team Member.
