A bit confused??? Is it Rheumatoid Arthritis???

My Rheumatoid Factor comes back as
10 iu/ml. Which is negative for RA

My C Reactive Protein is mg/L which is fine.

However my 14.3.3. Eta Ag blood test came back as 17.56 which is high

Does anybody know if this means I do indeed have RA

I do have arthritis in both shoulders, both knees, and both hands that I know of. Both shoulders and knees will be getting totally replaced soon
I certainly have joint pain.

  1. My C Reactive Protein is 3 mg/L

    1. RA is such a complicated condition that it is impossible now and likely in the future that any blood test can adequately assess it. I encourage you to check out this article as it may give you some insight on this issue when blood test does not match up with how your feeling - https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/seronegative-ra-blood-tests-dont-tell-entire-story. If you're hurting and experiencing challenges, then what you are experiencing is very much so real and valid. This is why it’s important to work with a doctor that listens to all of you- not just what your blood work shows. Have you thought of potentially getting a second opinion? Hoping you can get some clarity soon! Best, Latoya (Team Member)

      1. Hi . Getting a diagnosis can be a frustrating experience. I need to note that we are not medical professionals and cannot offer medical opinions or advice. On top of the excellent information from Latoya, I do want to share with you this article on the diagnostic accuracy of the 14-3-3 protein for RA which found that "The current evidence indicated that 14‐3‐3 η protein has moderate accuracy for the diagnosis of RA:" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7756802/. I also want to note that it is has been found to be significantly elevated in psoriatic arthritis. For this reason it is used in conjunction with other tests to assist in diagnosis. Are you seeing a rheumatologist to try to get a diagnosis? This article from our editorial team discusses the diagnostic process: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/diagnosis. I hope you can get some answers and relief soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

        1. Thank You for these responses. I had no idea it was so hard to diagnose.

          Great articles. Thank You

I will definitely be getting a 2nd and probably third opinion.

I already will be having both my shoulders replaced. And then surgery on both my knees as well

My back has begun to kill me

I can feel the pain in my hands, knees, ankles, and both my shoulders especially.

I'm very interested to see what treatment the 1st rheumatologist wants to start me on.

At this point I'd be very surprised if I didn't in fact have RA

          1. Hi . Glad you found the information useful. Quite a few of the treatments can be used to treat multiple autoimmune arthritic conditions. Please feel free, if you like to keep us posted on how things progress and how you are doing and to ask additional questions. Really hoping you get some answers soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

          2. Yeah I really hope my shoulder surgeries and knee surgeries will relieve some pain.
