Has anyone had a Aldolase blood test with results at a high level? I am currently being tested for RA among other things I assume. I have several RA symptoms but RA factor and other inflammatory markers were normal. Aldolase was very high.

, hi! I hope you get some helpful feedback from other community members that may be familiar with the Aldolase blood test. This is not a test that comes up within the community very often. Usually, an elevated Aldolase test result indicates a liver problem of some sort. Have your doctors discussed your bloodwork results with you? Have they talked about what they think might be causing the high aldolase level?
As to the second part of your comment; you can still have RA even if your bloodwork seems normal or inconclusive. There is a form of RA called seronegative RA, in which the bloodwork looks normal or not elevated to be officially diagnosed as seropositive RA. You can read more about it here -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/seronegative-ra-blood-tests-dont-tell-entire-story.
I hope this helps and please keep us posted on your diagnosis, when you get one, but only if you feel comfortable doing so.
Hi . Mind if I ask what some of your symptoms are? I ask because while the Aldolase test is often used, as Erin noted, for detecting liver issues, it can also detect muscle damage (see: https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/tests/aldolase-blood-test). RA can impact the muscles (see here for an example: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/ebiom/article/PIIS2352-3964(17)30294-3/fulltext). Of course, there are other potential causes and it is important to get the proper diagnostics from a doctor. Hoping you can get some answers soon. Please feel free to keep us posted on how you are doing. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
