Hi . Like so much with RA, treatment with biologics is largely a trial and error proposition. Hopefully some day there will be biomarker testing to determine which particular drug will be most effective for an individual. That said, biologics really have revolutionized the treatment of RA. Often patients are started on anti-TNF drugs (such as Enbrel and Humira). This is largely due to the fact that they were the first biologics developed and the most common. Of course, your doctor may have other ideas, specific to your case. This article from our editorial team gives an overview of the biologic medications, with links to more specific information: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/biologics-treatment-options-for-ra. Like other RA treatments, it can take a while for a person to notice improvement and how long can really depend on the individual and the drug. The short answer is that patience is often the word of the day. Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts. Wishing you the best. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
