Cimzia

Hello! I have been on Humira but am having allergic reactions after 6 injections so my rheumatologist is switching to Cimzia. This isn’t a common biologic I’ve heard of and the results mention 24 WEEKS until you notice a difference. That’s 6 months!!!!!!!!! Has anyone had experience with this switch of biologics? Does progress build? I feel defeated.

  1. Thanks for reaching out. Glad you were able to determine that you were having an allergic reaction. We do have many in our community who take Cimzia, although, yes it is perhaps less common than Humira. I hope others in our community chime in and share their experience and how long until they felt results. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article on Cizma may be helpful: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/cimzia-reviews-how-well-it-works. Also, this is a great article about switching medications that may be helpful: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/dmard-medication-change. Wishing you some relief soon! 1. Hi . Sorry you had this allergic reaction issue. The trial and error nature of finding an RA treatment is one of the more frustrating aspects of the disease for many in the community. I can't personally speak to Cimzia, but I did note that the different studies seem to cite the 24 weeks as the point that more than 50% reported improvement. This includes those for who the medication does not work, which will pull the time frame further out. Some do report noticing an effect in as little as a couple of weeks. I noticed that the Humira site also states that results could take 24 weeks or longer (this statement actually seems fairly standard). Hoping you will see results fairly quickly.
