Continued Weight Gain
I am on Plaquenil, methotrexate and sulfasalazine. Before the symptoms started I was 190lbs. Now after a year and half I am 230lbs. I know the need for steroids in the beginning did not help. But I have not taken any in months and I continue to gain weight with a healthy diet and activity as tolerated, like swimming and walks. Any suggestions?
After I took heavy steroids it took me years to get my body back down to weight and to undo most of the damage it did. I had to diet heavily, like cut my calories by 1/3-1/2 every day and exercise regularly after the first few pounds of water weight fell off, so, unfortunately, I don't think it's going to just go back to how it was without work. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear but steroids are so bad with the side effect, I avoid them when I can and only take a little if I absolutely have to. All I can see is keep it up and if you lose even 1lb in a month that is progress! Remember, with RA, everything is 100x slower because our bodies adjust glacially slow! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
