Fasting

Has anyone tried intermittent or extended fasting as a way to reduce inflammation from RA?

My primary care physician suggested this strongly.

  1. I'll probably get banned for posting this. Your PCP is an idiot.

    1. , eh. We're pretty open here and you are welcome to share your opinions and feelings in this space. But, I do know some community members have had good luck with dietary changes. It's definitely not a cure all, but certain protocols do seem to offer some individuals some relief. But, I do kind of side eye any program that says it is the "cure" for RA. 2. Diets and RA have a long and complicated history. While there has never been official studies that prove they affect the illness, there is no end of anecdotal stories from patients who claim diets helped them. Me, personally, I didn't think they worked and I tried a ton until I found one by accident that SEEMS to lessen my symptoms. No sugar/low carb. Is it really working? Heck if I know, but as I always say, if something works for you, keep doing it. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

    1. , I thought you might find this piece by one of our contributors interesting (she gets into fasting about 2/3 of the way through the article) -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/an-integrative-approach. Like any treatment for RA, some people have found dietary changes very helpful, while others have not noticed a marked difference in their symptoms/inflammation. However, you have every right to pursue any treatment option that you would like (well, as long as it's legal, of course! 😉 ). I hope this information is helpful for you and should you try this approach, please do come back and update us on how it works, if you feel comfortable doing so.

      1. Thanks Erin - I have been reading “the Complete Guide to fasting” by Jason Fung, MD with Jimmy Moore.

It makes sense that when your body starts burning stored fat in at her than glucose, god things happen.

I am going to try intermittently fasting first then try a 24, 48, and 72 hour.

But I’ll do it slowly and under medical supervision.

I’ll post the results in my lab work.

I am looking to see if CRP and Vectra scores drop,
