Increased/different pain with decreased swelling

This week I’ve noticed a difference in the type of pain in my hands. My knuckles are usually stiff and hands are puffy with swelling, but this week the swelling has gone down and I actually have wrinkles, but the type of pain has changed to more of a pain in what feels like the actual bones of the joints. I have had constant hand joint pain for the past two years, stiff, burning, aching, but now in addition to that, it’s just different. Has anyone else experienced this as well?

  1. Hi MarlaMeshae. Sorry you are having this new pain. Like any new symptom, you may want to bring this to the attention of your doctor. As you mentioned, swelling in the fingers is certainly very common. I can't speak to the specific symptoms you are experiencing, but bone erosion definitely can occur with RA. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Wishing you some answers and relief soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. Thank you. I see my Rheumatologist mid-December. We will review my first Vectra score, which shows moderate disease activity, and go from there.
