Foot Problems

I have had RA for about 5 years and currently I am having problems standing in one spot without pain and my shoes seem to be too small. Does anyone else have this problem and what do you recommend?

  1. Thanks for reaching out LynnM. I'd encourage you to speak with your doctor about any new, changing or concerning symptoms, if you haven't already. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article on Balance with RA may be helpful: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/ra-and-balance-issues. Also this article on shoes and summer sandals: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/supportive-sandals-footwear. Wishing you some answers and relief ahead. 1. thank you. Those two articles are very helpful.

  2. Hi . I noticed that you mentioned your shoes feeling to small. Inflammation can be a cause of this, but also it is not uncommon for individuals with RA to experience fallen arches which will make the shoes too small as the foot spreads out. I know many with RA benefit from consulting with podiatrist. Anecdotally I can tell you that my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here) is definitely one of them. Also, I want to share with you this article from our contributor Lynn Marie on things she wishes she knew about foot health when first diagnosed: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/mtp-joint-pain. Hoping you can get some answers and relief soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. Thank you, the information you provided is very helpful. My daughter suggested that too, so I will be making that call. Lately it seems that everything hurts, feet, ankles, hips and back. I am taking Humira and my RA numbers are good but I also have Osteoarthritis. I have been too stubborn for the prednisone my doctor wants to prescribe but I might not be able to tough it out much longer.
