Gut Microbiome

For those of you with Netflix, VERY interesting documentary called “Hacking your Health: Secrets of the Microbiome”. While they only swiftly mention autoimmune diseases, they do touch on a bit and explain a lot about the gut, brain, Microbiome relationships. And, how much of our gut biology has been trashed. It was extremely interesting. Eat the rainbow!

  1. P.S. as I think many of you are aware, there is significant research taking place on the relationship between the gut microbiome and autoimmune diseases. They said this is a fast and rapidly evolving area of research and while it may not benefit some of us older folks, the younger folks on here have reason to be encouraged!

    1. Thanks for sharing this, ! I don't have Netflix at the moment, but I'll have to check out the documentary when I resubscribe. I think continued study into autoimmune conditions and our nutrition as a whole is a good idea.

      1. Thanks so much for sharing this, ! I'm going to add it to my queue today. I agree that there is room for more research in this area. It's amazing the new things they continue to learn about our bodies, especially how the gut might be linked to our overall health. I am definitely curious for them to learn more so I will be watching it soon! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

        1. There is a LOT of research going on. After all, the gut is the host of almost all the immune cells in the body. That should tell us all something. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9499173/ Is one example of an article discussing all the research and the connection with RA specifically.
I already had one autoimmune disease but had been well controlled for 15 years. Then after dodging it for 3 years and keeping up with all but the prior vaccine, I got Covid. It wreaked havoc on my entire digestive system. About 3 months later I had a flare of RA. I didn’t even know what it was, though my other AI disease can also cause some pain, fatigue, etc. But this was bad. I wa Dx 5 months later. I had already been working with my gastroenterologist to get my gut healed. Now have redoubled those efforts. This documentary was excellent. Encourage anyone here with Netflix to watch it.

          1. Thank you for sharing this resource and your experiences. I'm sorry that you had to deal with all of that post-covid. You're not alone in that as rheumatologists are finding, and even told to me by mind, that covid can attack/inflame various organs up until months later. Covid really can do a number on someone with RA as it sort of spreads the fire even more. But I'm glad you're taking action to heal and balance your body. Wishing you all the best, and sending lots of love & light your way. -Effie, team member
