Does methotrexate have to build up in your system?

I have been on methotrexate for three weeks and do not feel a difference.

  1. I was told today that can take up to 12 weeks to work.

    1. Ive been on it for 5 weeks. Its starting to do something(pain is still there but somewhat better). I was told it could start working after three weeks

      1. Methotrexate (MTX as the cool kids call it), does take time to build up in your system and it may take three months or more before you start to see results. Doctors may even want to combine it with other drugs if the results are not up to snuff. Don't worry. 😀 Keep on keepin' on, DPM

        1. Hi moom40. This article from our editorial team gives an overview of methotrexate: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/treatment/methotrexate/. It notes that "It may take 3 to 6 weeks of treatment before you start to experience a therapeutic response to methotrexate, then up to 12 weeks or more for the full effect to be achieved." Hope you are feeling better soon. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
