Methotrexate injection

I’ve been on Methotrexate now for 1 year , I inject on a Sunday, I feel so tired and low for three days after ,also a wave of sickness comes over me now and then . I still have pain in the mornings , I look forward to Thursday as things start to feel better . Then coming up to Sunday I have a feeling of dread as I know it’s nearly time to inject again . I am seriously thinking of stopping the medication altogether. Has anyone any thoughts on this ? Thanks 😊 Wendy.x

  1. I know this has to be so daunting for you. Methotrexate can be tough to manage, and it’s frustrating when the side effects leave you feeling drained and unwell. It’s great that you’ve found a sense of relief by Thursday, but I can imagine the dread as the next injection approaches. Have you talked to your doctor about your experience? They might be able to adjust the dosage, suggest ways to manage the side effects better, or even explore alternative treatments. I hope someone can chime in and share in their experience as well. But whatever you choose, make sure you feel supported and informed in your decision. I hope you find some resolve soon! All the best, Latoya (Team Member)

    1. Hi Wendy (). You definitely are not alone with these methotrexate issues. Our patient Tamara wrote here about her experience and I suspect much of it will sound familiar: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/whats-worth-pros-cons-methotrexate. I can also tell you that my wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), took the oral version for years and would take it Friday's after dinner so that the methotrexate hangover wouldn't interfere with her week. I noticed that you mentioned still having morning pain. Do you feel like your symptoms are generally controlled? I ask because there certainly are other treatment options now available. Please don't hesitate to speak with your rheumatologist about options. Also, feel free to keep us posted on how things are going and to ask additional questions - this community is here for you.
