Murky Waters with my Primary Care Provider

I find it difficult to get a straight answer from my primary care provider regarding my safety and Covid. I have had three Pfizer vaccines and my Covid anti-bodies look pretty good, but my WBC is low. I ask if I am safe to go to public places, like a restaurant and they cannot give me a straight answer. I know it's a tough call since there is still research being conducted when it comes to Covid and RA.

I sent a message to my PCP asking if it's safe for me to attend a private dinner in a restaurant next week with my vaccinated co-workers. His response is, maybe, but I will be more susceptible to Covid infection if my RA is acting up. It's always acting up to some degree.

I may have the antibodies, but my WBC is low. What happens if I become a breakthrough case? Will my symptoms be more severe than someone without RA due to being immunosuppressed?

I'm fearful of going but are my concerns justified? I feel like everyone is moving forward with life and I'm clinging to the boat afraid to jump in the water.

  1. Thanks for sharing and reaching out. It's such a tricky thing and honestly still many unknowns. Sounds like you PCP is giving you the best advice they can with the information we know. Sounds like you are taking precautions and your concerns are certainly justified given the unknowns. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article may be helpful: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/antibodies-covid-vaccine. Wishing you relief and good health ahead.
