Popping Joints

I am a newly diagnosed Seropositive 50yo female. After years of what I thought was osteoarthritis pain, I sought treatment when I started experiencing excessive swelling in my feet and knees, and extreme chronic back pain. My 3rd dose of MTX is Sunday, and the only big change has been less swelling but a HUGE increase in all those same joints popping with any position change. I am curious if it is a by product of rapid reduction in swelling, does it improve over time? Its aggravating at its worst, but makes me wonder why it started. Thoughts?

  1. hi. joint popping for me ha always been common, as I got older and then DX with RA, PsA and Osteo it seemed to pick up a little more. When I asked my doctors they all told me the same thing which in short was no pain, no problem. Normal.

    1. Hi . Is it the kind of popping sound that is produced when people "crack" their knuckles or their necks? If so, it is might be just air, but I would mention it to your doctor anyway. You never know. It's strange that it happens without a position change though. Methotrexate can take a few months to really become effective, but if it doesn't help, know that there are lots more medications available to you. Doctors usually prescribe methotrexate first because it is inexpensive and because so many insurance companies require that you try it first, but it does not help everyone. I hope you gets some answers from your doctor about the popping sensation and that you update us when you do. You have me curious. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
