Question about juvenile idiopathic arthritis

I knew there was such a thing as Juvenile Diabetes, but hadn't heard much in the field of JIV. I know I have some bad days with my RA and just can't imagine a child of any age dealing with this while they are in their formative years. It breaks my heart. My question is, how many children in the U.S. currently suffer from this disease and is there a particular part of the country that it is more prevalent?

  1. Hi, ! The most consistent estimate I found on North American JIV numbers comes in around 300,000. Keep in mind, those numbers include Canada and also, it doesn't include the undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. As far as 'hot spots' or concentrations of the disease in certain areas, well, that data is a little harder to come by. More research needs to be done into juvenile arthritis as a whole, so these numbers may be available some time in the future. If I happen to dig up more data, I will come back and update my comment here.

    I hope this helps!
