Questions: LED Light therapy

GM. My wife, concerned about my pain. bought me a Red and Infrared light therapy mitt for my hands. she has all good intentions, I used it a couple of time, somewhat helped, not sure if it's the LED light or the warm heating pad environment my hand is in for 10 mins. I did end up with dry hands.

Now, I did some research regarding the product, as I am taking Methotrexate with has some warnings about photosensitivity.
Digging more into the depths, all I could come up from the internet, was photosensitivity related to Sun exposure and LED White light exposure that can cause issues. I couldn't find anything relate to red light therapy nor infrared light therapy.

So i am wondering if anyone else has used this type of therapy, what kind of results, and of course safety for use.

TIA

  1. Hi . I can't personally speak to this issue, but I want to share with you this previous Forum discussion on the topic where I included the experiences of one of our contributors and some research: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/red-light-therapy. Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences. Best, Richard (Team Member)

    1. right, should have searched before I posted. thanks for the references.

      1. , no worries! Part of our job is to make finding information easier for our members. It's no bother to look up that kind of info. I hope the link Richard provided is helpful!

      2. Hi . First, let me echo Erin - we all have a lot of experience with the archive of material and are here to help locate it. In fact, I also probably should have shared these two patient leader articles that deal with the topic: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/foot-pain-relief-infrared-light-therapy and https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/sauna-love.
In addition, I also tried to look up information on sun sensitivity and redlight and infrared therapy. My wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), is also photosensitive. I found, like I think you did, that there isn't a lot on infrared or red light and it seems kind of all over the place, so, as a non-medical professional, I wouldn't want to venture a guess. It does seem that a good number of people with RA try it. Hopefully your doctor can give a little insight. Best, Richard (Team Member)
