RA + Ulcerative Colitis + Celiac

I currently have RA and UC and have had both 20 years plus. I feel like I am developing celiac symptoms. It is so hard to know if it is symptoms from the RA or the UC or reactions to medicines. I get so tired to going to the doctor with another issue and find that it is not really anything but a symptom of the RA or UC. RA has soooo many weird symptoms that come and go. My sister has a number of autoimmune diseases and celiac.

My question is two fold:

Does anyone else have all three?
If you have all three, how did you recognize you had yet another autoimmune disease?

Thank you!

  1. Hi . Fortunately, there is a simple blood test for Celiac's disease that your primary care doctor can order. So, you don't have to guess as to whether you might have another disease. When you ask your doctor about the test, you should also mention your new symptoms. Sometimes, it can be difficult to determine a new diagnosis on your own, but your doctor might recognize some red flags. I hope this helps and that you are able to get the test. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi . On top of the excellent information from , I want to share with you that ulcerative colitis and celiac are sometimes comorbid conditions and you can learn more about it here: https://www.healio.com/news/gastroenterology/20161013/identifying-managing-comorbidity-of-celiac-ibd. In addition, I don't know if you are aware that we have a sister-site for inflammatory bowel disease at https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/. There you can find the same level of information and support for that condition as you find here for RA. Hoping you get some answers and relief soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)
