Shoes...stylish for the workplace but also functional?

Does anyone have recommendations on any certain brands of shoes that are stylish enough for the workplace, but also more comfortable? My feet are my most painful joints (bilateral MTPs) and my xrays showed bony erosion in my feet. Before RA, I wore a lot of wedges, heels, boots, etc. Now I am sticking to flats and if I wear anything with a heel I wear danskos typically. The flats are not very comfortable either though, probably not enough cushion/support. Does anyone have any favorites? Thanks!

  1. Hi , what a great question! Finding shoes that are both comfortable for RA and workplace stylish can be tricky for sure. I hope some of our community members here can share their recommendations and favorites with you here. In the meantime, I wanted to share two articles with you. The articles themselves might be less of interest to you (one is about sandals, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/supportive-sandals-footwear and the other specifically Birkenstocks, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/birkenstock-shoes), but within the comment sections of the articles community members shared their favorite brands/shoes. Hopefully you find some ideas there while you wait to hear from community members here! Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    1. thank you!!

      1. you're welcome! Did you get a chance to check out the articles and comments? Any shoes sound like potentials for what you're looking for? -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

    2. Yes, I did. I looked up quite a few online but ultimately went to a local store and tried on several pairs and went with a few different dansko styles. Thank you!

      1. Dansko shoes are definitely stylish! They offer a wide range of colors and make for a great professional shoe. Glad you landed on the right shoe for you! -Latoya (Team Member)

      2. Hi . I also prefer to actually see a shoe up close and try it on. I struggle with getting a pair of shoes online - I've done it, but it is not as comfortable (no pun intended) for me. I think the thing is that, even though most places make it pretty easy to return, there is a hesitancy for many people to do so. Then you may be stuck with a pair of shoes you are not completely comfortable with. I guess trick is to have no hesitation about doing the returns. O.K. - rant over. Hope you are happy with the new shoes. Best, Richard (Team Member)
