Twitching in arms, wrists and fingers.

I was diagnosed with RA about 2 years ago. I now am experiencing muscle twitching in my arms, wrists and fingers. Shoulders always feel heavy, like I've been carrying buckets of sand for hours. Can this be associated with RA?

  1. , I am sorry you are experiencing these new symptoms. I would definitely check in with your physician, if you haven't already done so. The symptoms could be related to RA, but it could be something else entirely. I do hope you are able to get to the bottom of what's going on very soon!

    1. Hi . I just want to echo on the importance of bringing any new symptom to the attention of your doctor. Muscle twitching can be an issue with RA or related to RA (see this earlier discussion on just this topic: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/forums/twitching-muscles) or, as Erin said, something else entirely (anything from a vitamin and mineral deficiency, which can happen with RA to nerve issues to other autoimmune issues ...). Either way, the proper diagnostics are needed to figure out how your treatment regimen needs to be altered or augmented. Hoping you get some answers and relief soon. 1. Thank You both! I am working with my Doctors and hoping we can correct the problem.

        1. After three decades of RA myself, I can say that I'm not surprised anymore by the side effects that crop up. Chances are if something goes awry with my body that it is more than likely in some form to my RA. I mean it sounds like common sense but something I would say "this can't possibly be related to my RA," and then it, of course, proved me wrong, time and again. So, in a nutshell, it's hard to say what is related and what isn't but it's best to check with your rheumatologist anyway. Keep on keepin' on, DPM
