What is Pseudogout

I have had JRA since age 4 and will be 69 next month, I was diagnosed with Pseudogout in 10/2023. what is this, only found a little information on this. On prednisone since 6/1980. My fingers are becoming fused it started with my middle finger swelling to 5 1/2 inches. the little finger became fused after having a thorn from a rose bush causing an infection, now the thumb became swollen and painful and now I cannot bend it at all. Taking Colchicine 0.6 for the Gout. Not helping much.

  1. Hi , I'm so glad that you reached out. While I'm not familiar with Pseudogout, a google search leads me to believe it is similar to Gout but the crystals are formed from a different substance. I did find this article from the Arthritis Foundation with information that might be helpful, https://www.arthritis.org/diseases/more-about/gout-or-pseudogout. Hopefully some of our community members with any experience can also chime in here.

Also, I'm sorry to hear that your fingers and hand having been causing such difficulties and that your current treatment doesn't seem to be helping much. Is this something that you've mentioned to your doctor yet? I'm also sharing an article from one of our advocates about what she's found helpful for her stiff and painful hands, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/hand-care-options.

I do hope that you can get some relief! Wishing you a gentle day. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
