Is anyone here taking hydroxychloroquine?

Has anyone taking Hydroxychloroquine for their RA? I just got diagnosed and have been taking for a few weeks.

I’ve been taking Plaquenil for about 4 years. I started with Leflunomide but 2 years post diagnosis my doctor added Plaquenil. I was pain free for almost 2 years. I’ve been experiencing more flare ups and the doctor requested a special blood test and results indicated that my meds are no longer working so now I’m on Rinvoq. I’ll continue taking the other meds until my follow up in 4 weeks.

I’ve been on Plaquenil since I was diagnosed in October 2018. It definitely helped but it took me 3 months to feel some relief. My rheumatologist mainly prescribed it for me because I had an elevated liver enzyme and because I had symptoms of lupus (which Plaquenil can treat).

I hope you it helps you! Wishing you the best,

I was on it for awhile but it didn’t work for me that well. Rheumatologist had to put me on something much stronger.

I have been on it since December 2018, but then I got pregnant in 2019. My symptoms subsided and not sure if it was from the medication or the pregnancy. I am 6 weeks post pregnancy and suffering a flare. Going to see if after my hormones die down if the medication kicks in. I did take the medication during pregnancy as well which made me nervous but I had no side effects from taking it.

    JayNelly,

Well I am certainly no expert on this subject by a long shot. But this online newspaper reflects what I have come to understand about pregnancy and RA.

If you scan to the bottom it discusses post pregnancy RA outcomes it says that about 50% of women have flares.

Yes I am! I have been on it for about a month and a half. Suppose to take up to 3 months to kick in. I am newly diagnosed and only in my hands at the moment. In what I understand from my Rheumatologiat is that is is a very successful drug in helping with flare ups and progression of the disease. I have had no side effects from it. Also I am on a non inflammatory diet and eliminated sugar. Rhumetoid loves sugar!!

I was diagnosed almost four years ago and
have been on this medication since. I have been fortunate with very mild flare ups and very little progression of the disease. There have been no side effects from this medication either. I know this is not going to last and I am grateful for each day.
