Great question lbohling. So sorry you aren’t having any relief from Enbrel. We understand you here and you are not alone in finding a treatment plan that works. I hope the community can offer you some support. (Thanks discgman!!!)

Thanks Lauren. I am still flaring up after Humira stopped working. Four weeks of enbrel and no relief. Flareups are the worse ive had in a while. Shoulders, feet, hands, wrists and knees. I can only get some relief from the presidone taper. I had to get more of due to latest issues. Rumy dr says to give enbrel more time so I bought another 4 weeks supply. Hate to keep switching but if it doesnt work why bother. At least humira started to work soon after I took meds.

In my experience 4 weeks is not long enough to allow for a new med to start working. I am on my 3rd biologic and it has taken about 8 weeks for it to fully take effect. Patience is in order. RA is a lifetime marathon, not a 100 yard dash! Stay in the fight! Dave

Thank you Dave! I will try to be patient. This will be week 5 on enbrel. The flare up has been the worse so far since my 2008 diagnosis. , so I guess I am frustrated and cranky due to the pain. Thats what sucks about this disease. Nobody can tell you have it cause you can be at the gym doing a hard workout one day, then unable to walk or brush your teeth the next week.

I know what you mean, discgman! RA is like Forrest Gump’s box of choclates, you never know what you are going to get literally from one hour to the next. I have had flares that came on in a matter of a couple of hours. Feeling good and doing fine and then 2 hours later on the couch. I started on Humira as my 1st biologic about 1 1/2 years ago. It took effect almost immediately and I am thinking that this is gonna be good. About two months and things went south again, big time. My Rheumatologist switched me to Cimzia and it took a couple of months for it to kick in. I was on it for about a year with probably the last 3 months of the run in almost total remission, then IT stopped working! I went thru about 3 or 4 months of really rough going what with the time lag in getting insurance approval for the new biologic (Orencia infusion) and the time it has taken it to kick in (about 8 weeks.) Such is the rollercoaster ride that we are on. The key for me is to take this thing one day at a time and never let myself give in to anything but an attitude of optimism. I will not let this thing whip me. It may knock me down and put me on the couch but I won’t let it keep me there. This thing is no fun and nobody but those of us who do battle with it will ever understand what we go through and I’m ok with that. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Hang in there, my friend, tomorrow may very well be a better day and if not we will survive to fight another day. Stay in the fight! Dave

Thank you Dave. I will keep fighting to get healthy. The presidone is kicking in and giving me a little relief until the enbrel starts to work. I will keep bugging my rhumy doc for some more until this gets resolved.
