New to this - arm weakness

Hello! It has been suggested by my Dr that I have RA. I have type 1 diabetes, asthma, allergies already. I've had blood tests (negative) x-rays and ultrasound (inflammation in finger joints) and am awaiting a rheumatologist appt. Can you have inflammation in fingers and only have osteoarthritis? And are weakness of fingers and arms a sign of RA?

  1. Hi Lizlola! Thanks so much for posting on our forums! Wow, you're already managing so many conditions. We appreciate you letting us know what you're already managing in addition to these symptoms you've been having. It's entirely possible that osteoarthritis may account for the inflammation in your fingers, but I think it's great that you're going to a rheumatologist to potentially rule anything else out. Regarding your arms and fingers, weakness can be related to fatigue with a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. If you were interested in reading more about that, you can check out this article: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/symptoms/fatigue-and-weakness/ In addition, we do have a community for asthma if you were interested in checking it out: Asthma.net. Hang in there! Keep us posted if you'd like. -Alesandra (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. Thank you for your reply! I know I'll have to wait for the rheumatologist's appointment. I'm hoping it is osteo rather than RA.
