Pealing nail beds

I have been diagnosed with RA about 5 years ago... I have had a new development that has happened in the last month. My nails are pealing all the way off to the nail beds (only on my thumbs) very strange. It is almost like I have lost my nail (actually I have). It started all of a sudden at the base of my nail by the cuticle. Can anyone advise if they have had this issue and what causes it? My nail is not growing just keeps fluffing off.

I also have Fibro and Psoriasis - if that matters at all.

Thank you,

Debby

  1. Hi Debby~

Whenever you have a new and unusual symptom, the very best thing you can do is talk to your doctor about it. Though I can't provide you with medical advice, since you have psoriasis I would probably recommend speaking to your doctor about the possibility of psoriatic arthritis, which has a lot of symptoms similar to RA but can also include issues with the nails, like pitting and pulling away from the underlying nail bed. You can read more about psoriatic arthritis here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/types-of-arthritis/psoriatic-arthritis/

    Best of luck to you!
