How do you take care of your crooked hands?

  1. Me personally, I use compression gloves a lot and I also try to keep my hand use to a minimum in order to save them for as many years as possible. I work with my hands as a writer, so I have to make sure to protect them. If it gets really bad, I will wear a wrist brace similar to the ones people use for carpal tunnel syndrome. That immobilizes my wrist and makes the hand in general hurt less. As for actual deformity of the knuckles and fingers, well, you can speak to your physician about that they do have some surgical options but those are serious and they require recovery time. I think it comes down to you having to take stock and realize just how far you want to go in order to mitigate the hurt and inability to use your hands that you are experiencing. Whatever you decide though, we can help, if not me then someone else here has definitely gone through it, and you will not be alone. Keep on keepin' on, DPM

    1. Hi , in addition to the excellent information from Daniel, I wanted to share this article our advocate, Monica, wrote about RA impacting her fingers and hands and ways she reduces the strain on them, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/fine-motor-skills. And another one of our advocates wrote about the ways she helps her stiff fingers and hands in this article, https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/tips-for-hand-pain. Hopefully these can help give you some insights also. Wishing you a gentle evening! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
