Losing Job

I was forced to resign or be terminated from my 30 year career 6 days after applying for intermittent FMLA. The volume of work was impossible for even a healthy person, but instead of making accommodations, they kept piling it on. Now, I'm applying for disability hoping for some kind of income. Trying to see the positives to simplify life and take care of myself.

  1. Shocking. So sorry that this happened.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that happened. I hope you do take this time for you and to take care of your mind, body and spirit. Many things we think are bad are sometimes blessings in disguise. I hope things work out with applying for disability. So many do that now, and are in the same position as you. Myself included. Wishing you all the best! -Effie, team member

      1. Hi . This type of workplace discrimination should never happen. I know following up on it is easier said than done, but I want to share with you this article on workplace rights: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/workplace-discrimination-know-your-workplace-rights. I also want to share this article on understanding the disability application process: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/understanding-application-process-social-security-disability-benefits and I'm tagging our patient leader as I believe he may have some insight to add. Wishing you the best and please feel free to keep us posted on how things are going and to ask questions - there are people here who have been where you are. Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

        1. thank you so much for the information! I really need to educate myself as I wasn't ready for the shock of being unemployed.

      2. My goodness! I'm deeply sorry to hear about the challenges you've faced in your career. It's so frustrating when an employers fails to provide their employees with the necessary accommodations, especially after years of dedicated service like you have put in. It shows just how much some employers do not value hard-working people and it's so unfortunate that your hands have been forced in this direction. As Effie said, while this chapter may be closing, new opportunities and possibilities may emerge as you navigate this next phase of your life, and I'm hoping everything works out with applying for disability. Continue to stay positive and be well. We're here for you. Warmly, Latoya (Team Member)
