Psoriasis

Hi has anyone developed psoriasis? I have had fibro12yrs, ra 12yrs and now psoriasis on scalp and eyebrows. I cannot get rid of it. It hurts and burns.

  1. Hi . So sorry you are struggling with this new condition. My wife, Kelly Mack (a contributor here), was diagnosed with rare form of psoriasis after 40 years of juvenile RA. Kelly wrote about her experience and how hers is treated here: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/inverse-psoriasis. Have you seen a dermatologist? This made all the difference for Kelly, as no one else seemed to be able to properly diagnosis or treat it and she actually ended up in the hospital. She wrote here about the importance of seeing specialists: https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/specialist-treatment. Hoping you can get some treatment and relief soon. Best, Richard (RheumatoidArthritis.net Team)

    1. , I just want to piggyback on what Richard shared. As you might know, once you are diagnosed with one autoimmune condition, it's not all that unusual to be diagnosed with another one (or even more than one). My husband deals with psoriasis and I know it can be painful and annoying to deal with. We do have a sister site dedicated specifically to psoriasis, which you are welcome to check out -- https://plaquepsoriasis.com/. You might find some tips and tricks to help manage the condition. 1. Thankyou both so much

        1. I'm wondering if you have joint pain as well. If so, you'll want to look into psoriatic arthritis. It's treated the same way as psoriasis. I have PsA and the only symptom of psoriasis that I have is striations/ridges on my fingernails, a telltale sign. Most doctors will start with low level drugs such as plaquenil [DMARD], but more often than not, a stronger drug such as Methotrexate or a biologic is needed. Not sure about now, but I know in the past they used to prescribe a steroid for the scalp which was very messy. The DMARDS and biologics are very very successful. I would strongly urge you to forget all the OTC stuff and false claims that mention a cure and go straight for one of the meds I have named.
