yoga

Has yoga helped your RA? My doctor told me to try it. I just ordered a yoga arthritis dvd I will be doing in the morning. I can't afford a class right now but I am sure I will do everything right since I used to do yoga when I was younger.

  1. Hi Twinkle86 -

Stretching and exercise can be really good for people with RA - and yoga is a great low-impact option! So I think trying a DVD is a great idea. Let us know how it goes and remember that we are here to support you!

    1. About 15 years ago, I consistently went to a once a week yoga class for 2-3 years & then stopped when the instructor I really liked stopped working at the health club.

2 months ago, I found this very nice yoga studio where for $75/month, there was no limit to the number of yoga classes for the month at the studio's multiple locations. I like the yoga for the ability to develop strength & flexibility without moving my joints excessively. Just be aware that there are a lot of styles of yoga now. Most of the classes are faster paced than the yoga 15 years ago. Some of the current yoga styles like hot yoga want to turn the room temp up to 90F (ugh!) and make the experience like a cardio workout. I like the classes with titles like "Restore" and "Introduction to Yoga" and a style of yoga called "Forrest" yoga because the pace is a little slower and the emphasis is more on breathing.
